Tool Design Engineer

Peterson Manufacturing has an immediate position for a Tool Design Engineer. Under the Engineering Manager’s direction, the Tool Design Engineer develops and executes the company’s tooling designs and provides specifications and drawings to Machinists and Tool and Die personnel.

ORGANIZATIONAL SUPERVISION, REPORTING AND INTERFACE

The Tool Design Engineer works directly with the Engineering team, Tool Room associates, and customers, as well as other associates of Vector.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops models and drawings for new builds, revisions, and repair applications of a variety of tooling & injection mold products.
  • Uses design software to maximum capability.
  • Compiles information for each job such as mold flow, resin characteristics, customer requirements, part moldability, and part design to produce the highest quality tool design.
  • Checks completed designs for errors and accuracy.
  • Responsible for maintaining project schedules through a timeline.

  • Must be willing to learn advancing technology and design practices.
  • Must be able to convey and communicate design intent clearly.
  • Must be able to work independently and within a team.
  • Must be detail oriented and organized to minimize errors.
  • Must be able to work on different projects simultaneously.
  • Determined to meet project deadlines.
  • Demonstrates a cooperative attitude.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 2 years design OR mold making experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years machining or tool room experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with Solidworks and Unigraphics NX design software.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Duties are performed indoors at the corporate offices in Grandview, MO.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, use stairs or elevators to access offices on other floors of building, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer printer, and phone.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others (internal and external) who may have various inquiries, etc.  Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Must be able to travel via airplane and/or car within the United States and to foreign countries, as business dictates.
