Engineer Manager
POSITION OBJECTION
The Engineering Manager, under the administrative direction of the Vice President of Engineering, is responsible for the supervision of the Senior Project Engineers, Project Engineers, Designers, and Drafters. In this capacity, the Engineering Manager coordinates engineering activities for all departmental projects with Sales, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Suppliers.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUPERVISION, REPORTING AND INTERFACE
The Engineering Manager supervises all associates within the Engineering Department and reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering. This position interfaces with executive and management team members, along with other company associates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assigning and directing all approved engineering projects.
- Overseeing product design to ensure that products have been evaluated for manufacturing feasibility, legal and cost considerations, design integrity, and marketing potential
- Approving all engineering cost estimates prior to submission to the VP of Engineering
- Coordinating Engineering Change Notices and Releases with affected departments
- Enforcing the priorities established by upper management to ensure that new product schedules are strictly adhered to
- Implementing training sessions for engineering personnel whenever the need surfaces
- Remaining abreast of the latest technology as it pertains to materials, design, and manufacturing processes
- Investigating reported product problems to determine their authenticity and to recommend appropriate corrective action
- Technically assisting Engineers in the development of new products
- Conducting periodic design review meetings with affected departments
- Seeing that corporate design quality system requirements/procedures are strictly followed
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Thorough knowledge of design, development of mechanical components and systems
- Working knowledge of test engineering, manufacturing operations, and engineering processes and procedures
- High level of analytical ability.
- Interactive management, Program management, FMEA, FEA, DVP&R, QS9000, TS16949 and PPAP tools.
- Must process strong financial understanding of the costing of products. Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple group efforts within the company to achieve objectives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a BS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in product design, development, and manufacturing.
ENVIRONMENT
- Duties are performed indoors at the corporate offices in Grandview, MO.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, use stairs or elevators to access offices on other floors of building, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer printer, and phone.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others (internal and external) who may have various inquiries, etc. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Must be able to travel via airplane and/or car within the United States, as business dictates.
