Position Title: Business Development & Account Manager – Injection Molding
Reports To: Plant Manager Classification: Exempt
Position Summary
The Business Development & Account Manager is responsible for generating new injection molding business, maintaining and expanding existing customer relationships, and driving profitable revenue growth. This position serves as the primary contact between customers and our company, identifying opportunities for new programs, securing RFQs (Requests for Quotation), and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the life of each project.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, customer-focused, and experienced in manufacturing sales, preferably within injection molding, plastics, or related manufacturing industries.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
New Business Development
- Identify and pursue new customers requiring injection molding services.
- Generate qualified leads through networking, industry contacts, trade shows, referrals, and direct outreach.
- Schedule and conduct customer visits, presentations, and facility tours.
- Build relationships with engineers, purchasing managers, program managers, and executive decision-makers.
- Secure opportunities for quoting new molds, tooling, and production programs.
- Track and manage sales opportunities through all stages of the sales cycle.
Quoting and Program Development
- Work with engineering, estimating, and operations teams to develop accurate quotations.
- Follow up on all submitted quotations and maintain communication with prospective customers.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and commercial agreements when required.
Account Management
- Maintain strong relationships with existing customers.
- Conduct regular customer visits and business reviews.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales within existing accounts.
- Seek additional programs, part numbers, assemblies, and value-added services from current customers.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and quickly resolve concerns or issues.
Market Growth and Strategy
- Identify target markets and industries that align with company capabilities.
- Recommend strategies to expand market share and improve sales performance.
- Represent the company at industry events, and customer meetings.
Internal Coordination
- Collaborate with engineering, tooling, quality, production, and customer service teams to ensure customer expectations are met.
- Provide accurate sales forecasts.
- Communicate customer requirements and project updates.
Performance Expectations
Success in this role will be measured by:
- New customer acquisition
- Annual sales growth
- Number of qualified RFQs generated
- Customer retention and satisfaction
- Gross profit contribution
- Achievement of sales goals and objectives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Marketing, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of manufacturing sales experience; plastics or injection molding experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of injection molding processes, tooling, and manufacturing operations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills.
Key Objectives
The primary objective of this position is to continuously increase profitable sales by:
- Bringing new customers into the company.
- Generating a consistent flow of RFQs and project opportunities.
- Expanding business with existing customers.
- Building long-term customer relationships.
- Positioning the company as a preferred injection molding manufacturing partner.
Position Goals
- Minimum 2-3 customer visits per month
- Generate 5–10 new RFQs per month
- Add 2-3 new qualified customers per year
The person in this position frequently communicates with others (internal and external) who may have various inquiries, etc. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Must be able to travel via airplane and/or car within the United States and on occasion to foreign countries, as business dictates.
